Conference with the ‘IT’ factor focuses on future...

Information technology specialists from the tertiary education sector will be descending on Massey University’s Palmerston North campus during early September.

Attending the 32nd Tertiary ICT Conference, over 120 attendees will be hosted by Massey University and UCOL for the three-day event from the 3rd-5th September.

This year’s theme is ‘Have you got IT’ (Finding Your Future). The conference centres around exploring how to get an IT strategic focus aligned to business, with discussions around learning and teaching in a different way. Attendees will also hear about emergent technologies as the way of the future.

Keynote speakers include Sir Ray Avery, Jamie Fitzgerald, Scott Houston of Microsoft, Brigid Heywood of Massey University, Dr. Welby Ings of AUT University Auckland and Derek Wenmoth of CORE Education.

Sir Ray Avery will be reviewing the history and current status of ICT, examining the evolving changes in ICT platforms used in business and medicine, and providing an insight into the world of ICT in 2050.

Scott Houston will look at how advances in cloud computing technology are giving everyone with an internet connection access to big computing power. He’ll examine why this matters for IT managers, researchers and educators in the tertiary education sector.

Brigid Heywood, Massey University Assistant Vice-Chancellor Research, Academic and Enterprise Professor, will be presenting ‘From Abacus to iPhone’. The keynote will seek toa conversation about the evolution of the new domains, both virtual and physical, for teaching.

Derek Wenmoth of CORE will be examining the opportunities and challenges of the 21st Century, and how to prepare students to be future-focused.
