Facebook gets creative at Auckland’s AdSchool...

FYI, this story is more than a year old

AdSchool students at Auckland's Media Design School have participated in an exclusive workshop on how best to use Facebook to deliver creative campaigns.

They are the first tertiary institution in the Asia Pacific region to be offered the opportunity, run by Gavin Carver, Creative Strategist at Facebook Creative Shop.

It was a thrilling opportunity to be asked to host the inaugural Facebook Workshop with Facebook Creative Shop, Kate Humphries, Programme Leader of the AdSchool, says. The AdSchool ranks as the fourth  most creative advertising school worldwide by Young Guns International.

“It was about Facebook now, not Facebook two years ago. It was very, very eye-opening and it has forced us away from the knee- jerk thinking of Facebook as social media to thinking of it as mass media.

Over the two-day period, Carver worked with all 22 AdSchool students, ensuring that they were getting the best out of the Facebook platform.

Humphries says that the Workshop pushed the thinking of the students away from apps and ‘likes' and focused it instead on delivering ‘thumb-stopping' content on mobile devices.

“As one student put it,  ‘with 1.3 billion users on Facebook, it just seems insane not to explore using Facebook as a mass media channel.
