Toshiba is to bolster its Satellite notebook series with three new models featuring ultra-fast dual- and quad-core processors.

Toshiba says the inclusion of AMD’s new Fusion A-series Accellerated Processing Units (APUs) will provide the notebooks with a major improvement in performance and power consumption.

According to Anthony Geronimo, product marketing manager for Toshiba, the main feature of the new notebooks is what is known as Dual Graphics technology, which involves the APU’s discrete-class graphics working with an external graphics card.

"The Toshiba Satellite L750D series will be some of the first products in the local market to feature AMD’s new A-series APUs,” Geronimo says, "introducing a richer computing experience for consumers.”

AMD’s Fusion APUs have been touted as the competitor to Intel’s Sandy Bridge units, which were in the new Macbook Air models launched by Apple last week.

The new additions to Toshiba’s Satellite series are to arrive in New Zealand in August.
