Mon, 5th May 2014
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Wynyard Group has appointed founding Chief Technology Officer, Roger Jarquin, to lead the company’s Crime Science Research Institute in New Zealand.

Jarquin conducted the original research and development for Wynyard’s advanced crime analytics product which won the most innovative software product category in the 2013 New Zealand Hi-Tech awards.

An advocate of the fusion of computer science and statistical models for solutions for detecting criminal activities, Wynyard says Jarquin will focus on applying and commercialising advanced crime prevention research, working closely with leading academic institutions, complementary technology companies and Wynyard’s financial services and government customers.

Wynyard Managing Director, Craig Richardson, says Wynyard is committed to leading the high growth category of advanced crime analytics through rapid innovation and Jarquin will play a key role in ensuring that is achieved.

“Wynyard’s Crime Science Research Institute will bring together forward-thinking government crime prevention agencies and institutions, research from universities including the prestigious UCL Jill Dando Institute of Security and Crime Science, the University of Canterbury and advanced technology developers with a single-minded purpose - preventing crime.

"Roger is one of a rare breed of leaders with the academic, technical and commercial capability to lead this research and commercialisation programme and we are fortunate to have him manage our expanding programme.”

Passionate about applying computing power to innovative and intelligent, non-traditional applications, Jarquin is looking forward to focusing on the research and development of Wynyard’s advanced crime analytics.

“I am extremely enthusiastic to be able to focus on the research and development of advanced crime analytics which will help Wynyard standout as a leading innovator in applying state of the art techniques to help prevent and solve crime," he says.

"I’m very proud to lead a world class team of researchers and software engineers that are up to the task."

Earlier this week Wynyard confirmed it had appointed Orion Health veteran, Gareth Cronin, as its VP of Engineering to grow and lead the engineering and development group.

This appointment will also allow Jarquin to focus on innovation critical to the company’s on-going growth in the Advanced Crime Analytics software market.

During his career, Jarquin has led research and development teams in Latin America, USA, and New Zealand and worked closely as research partner and advisor to universities in Latin America and New Zealand in multiple areas of Computer Science.
