Guatemala deports McAfee to USDecember 14 - 8am 699
John McAfee has been deported from Guatemala to the U.S. as he continues his evasion from police in Belize.
The McAfee founder remains a ‘person of interest’ in the murder of his neighbour Gregory Faull, but after fleeing officials in the country, McAfee is reported to be in Miami, Florida.
He is alleged to have arrived in Miami on Wednesday evening after his deportation, tweeting:
“I am in South Beach,” a reference to the tourist destination on Miami beach.
McAfee was refused political asylum in Guatemala after being on the run for over a month, despite his online efforts to persuade the government for sympathy.
Titled “Urgent from John”, a fresh blog post was updated last week asking supporters to “Please email the President of Guatemala and beg him to allow the court system to proceed, to determine my status in Guatemala.”
McAfee was arrested after illegally entering the country, accompanied by his 20-year-old girlfriend and two writers from Vice magazine.
But speaking to reporters outside Guatemala City airport, McAfee told reporters:
“I’m happy to be going home. I’ve been running through jungles and rivers and oceans and I think I need to rest for a while.
“And I’ve been in jail for seven days.”
He also said he had no immediate plans after reaching Florida.
“I’m just going to hang in Miami for a while. I like Miami,” he told Reuters.
“There is a great sushi place there and I really like sushi.”
