Kiwi data centre and infrastructure provider Revera is moving its email security to the cloud, signing a deal with fellow New Zealanders SMX.

The agreement will see Revera migrate 5000 customers from its current appliance-based Barracuda and Sortiemail security solution.

Jason Porter, general manager, technical operations for Revera, says SMX had to compete against the best international competition to win the business.

“We’re delighted that we can select a New Zealand-developed and supported cloud email security solution,” Porter says.

“All mail is scrubbed in New Zealand. That is particularly important for the growing number of our government and local government customers who require a carrier-grade email security service.”

Other selling points were the speed and ease of implementation and management, and the open architecture of the solution.

“This means we can build on new features and offer our customers an email security solution that is not only world class but also has features and benefits that they can’t get from another supplier.”

SMX chief executive Jesse Ball says being able to filter email ‘in country’ is proving a big advantage for local customers.

“Competing services route customer emails through offshore data centres,” Ball says, “whereas our strategy is to use local data centres with local support.

“That’s proving to be a powerful differentiator for us internationally as well.”
