Wynyard blows competition away with UK gun deal

Wynyard Group has signed a global partnership agreement with United Kingdom-based Arquebus Solutions to deliver an advanced gun crime intelligence solution for the law enforcement market.

INTERPOL estimates that each year firearms are used in more than 245,000 homicides worldwide (excluding war-torn countries).

The illegal use of firearms costs lives, harms communities and damages national reputations, and governments around the world are continuing to increase investment in initiatives to combat the criminal use of firearms.

The partnership’s advanced gun crime intelligence solution leverages Arquebus’ industry and consultancy expertise and Wynyard’s advanced crime analytics software to help law enforcement agencies tackle the challenges faced in the analysis, prevention and detection of firearms related offences.

Recognised as global experts in delivering intelligence-led, firearms enabled crime solutions, key members of the Arquebus team gained their expertise during the successful implementation of the United Kingdom’s National Ballistics Intelligence Service (NABIS). NABIS has received international acclaim and is credited with contributing to a 45% reduction in firearms related crimes over a 5-year period since its implementation in 2008.

Wynyard’s advanced crime analytics software will connect data from sources such as advanced ballistics comparison technology that creates images of bullets and cartridge-cases, national gun registers, person-of-interest and intelligence databases.

The solution will allow law enforcement agencies to rapidly connect ballistics-related data from bullets and cartridge cases to known offenders, organised crime networks or terrorists.

Arquebus Director, Matt Lewis, says using Wynyard’s advanced crime analytics to integrate bullet and cartridge-case matching capabilities with international and local crime data sources creates a compelling crime fighting solution.

“The challenges in countering the global problems associated with national and trans-national gun crime are great,” he says.

“The development associated with this exciting global partnership is already demonstrating our ability to support law enforcement partners across a range of organisational structures and jurisdictions.

“This is a significant and growing market and our initial focus will be on supporting clients in the United States, Europe and the Middle East.”

Wynyard’s advanced crime analytics software collects and organises data from any source and uses powerful algorithms to uncover people, relationships and events of interest.

Wynyard Group Managing Director, Craig Richardson, claims Wynyard believe the use of technology to map and create images of bullets and cartridges for identification and matching is a capability becoming more common in law enforcement agencies around the world.

“With Arquebus’ expertise and tradecraft, our solution can help law enforcement officers rapidly identify persons of interest, surface intelligence, gather evidence to solve crimes where firearms have been used and disrupt trafficking,” he says.
