Apple’s new spaceship HQ ready for take offOctober 16 - 8am
Apple’s new US$5 billion futuristic campus will be ready by 2015 – serving as a monument to the late Steve Jobs.
Cupertino’s sprawling new HQ, set to home 12,000 Apple employees, comes in at 2. 8 million square feet of space, incorporating 40-foot high floor-toceiling curved glass across the building.
Labelled as Apple Campus 2, the campus now awaits sign off from the Californian city council following a string of recent public meetings about the project.
In offering a sneak peak of Apple’s new home, which was the brainchild of Jobs, the company’s CFO Peter Oppenheimer said:
‘You see the energy and the love and the attention to detail that we’ve put into this.
“We have treated this project just as we would any Apple product.
“And this will be a place for the most creative and collaborative teams in the industry to innovate for decades to come.
“After all, this will be the place for the most creative and collaborative teams in the industry to to come together and innovate for decades to come.”
Designed to focus on collaboration and fluidity, the campus will be in keeping to the philosophies of both Jobs and design chief Jony Ive – a man held in high regard by the late company co-founder.
“The concept of the building,” Oppenheimer said, “is collaboration and fluidity.
“It’ll provide a very open-spaced system, so that at one point in the day you may be in offices on one side of the circle and find yourself on the other side later that day.”
Despite planning permission yet to be officially granted, a team of landscape designers have already began planting 7,000 fruit, oak and olive trees around the site.
“These trees more than anything else will be in a monument to Steve Jobs who was known for his passion for trees,” Oppenheimer added.
“We love California, and by adding over 2,500 new and indigenous trees that truly belong here.
“We’re bringing back the beautiful orchards that once made up this valley.”
