iPad 2 component shortages

This article could be out of date, as it was published 2 years 2 months 3 days ago.A report from research firm IHS iSuppli says that several “key” components in the iPad 2 come from Japan, including its battery and the flash memory.
The iPad 2 battery is manufactured by Apple Japan, an Apple subsidiary.
“Logistical disruptions may mean that Apple could have difficulties obtaining this battery, and it may not be able to secure supply from an external, non-Japanese source,” the report said.
Toshiba, who reportedly produces the NAND flash memory used in iPad 2, has briefly shut down a flash memory manufacturing facility in Japan, saying it could face hurdles distributing its products.
The IHS iSuppli report also said that other component suppliers, whose factories weren’t damaged, are still likely to be affected by logistical issues.
iPad 2 is due to go on sale in New Zealand and several other countries around the world on March 25th.
In Japan however, Apple is delaying the launch of iPad 2 while the country focuses on recovery following the earthquake.
