Facebook set to unveil new project?

Facebook looks set to unveil a new project after inviting journalists to “come see what we’re building” early next week.

The social networking giant sent the invitation in a bid to generate public interest in the launch, with all parties unsure of what to expect from the site.

Wired.com has speculated that they could debut a gadget of some kind, possibly even a smartphone, given the event coincides with the hardware-focused CES in Las Vegas.

Of course, Facebook may well just introduce a run of the mill product and prove the frenzy to be anti-climatic.

But the invite, scheduled for January 15 in California, could kick-start a new era for the company, who have got serious work to do to generate confidence in investors after a poor year during 2012.
