GrabOne Facebook app plays on trading card craze
Tue, 27th Sep 2011
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Daily deal site GrabOne has launched a Facebook app allowing users to collect and trade virtual cards, in a throwback to the days of collectible trading card sets.

The app, called Gimme5, requires players to use points to buy packs of the virtual cards. The cards can then be exchanged, sold or traded, with the goal of collecting five themed cards in any of six different sets – retail, events, health - beauty, food - drink, activities and travel – each with its own prize.

The app has already proved popular, with 70,000 cards traded in its first three days. Prizes include a double passe to the Foo Fighters concert in December, one of three Apple iPads, and a trip for two to Los Angeles with $1000 spending money.

GrabOne marketing director, Campbell Brown, says the app will run for just four weeks, although GrabOne may look at bringing out a new batch of cards depending on the response from users.

The card to look out for is Gimme's Time Leap, Brown adds.

"Those things are like gold.
