Snippets from Walter Isaacson’s forthcoming biography of Steve Jobs have been emerging online as CBS promotes a pre-release interview with the author on its show, 60 Minutes (CBS also owns Simon and Schuster, the book’s publisher).

Among the snippets is the revelation that Jobs unknowingly met his biological father several times, without either realising they were related.

Jobs’ father, Abdulfattah ‘John’ Jandali, ran a Mediterranean restaurant in Silicon Valley which Jobs used to frequent. Jobs’ biological sister, novelist Mona Simpson, tracked their father down years later when he was managing a coffee shop, but when she told Jobs about the meeting he chose not to pursue the connection.

CBS has also posted a video clip from the interview which reveals that it was only after much convincing from family and friends that Jobs had surgery to remove the pancreatic tumour which eventually took his life.

Jobs initially attempted to treat the tumour with alternative medicine; he told Isaacson he didn’t want to be ‘violated in that way’.

The biography, titled simply Steve Jobs, is due out on October 24.
