All systems go as Slingshot submits censored adverts to TV giants

Slingshot has dispatched two new advertisements, with mention of Global Mode censored, which the Internet Service Provider expects to be aired as early as today.

Removing all reference to Global Mode at the request of TV giants Mediaworks, Sky TV and TVNZ, the adverts are currently being dispatched through the usual channels and feature the company’s Unlimited and 80GB commercials.

Following two days of struggle, Slingshot General Manager Taryn Hamilton told Techday that the ISP is in favour of a level playing field across the internet.

“We’re all about net neutrality and allowing customers to experience the Internet on their terms, without censorship,” Hamilton told Techday, speaking before the announcement this morning.

“This has turned into a bit of an us vs. them battle, which is not at all what we intended.

“Our position is that we are doing New Zealand broadcasters a favour by making New Zealand’s lack of quality content at a fair price a talking point.

“Sky and Co should be going back to their partners and demanding a fairer deal on their rights so that Kiwis can enjoy the same level of value as others around the world.

“Otherwise more and more people will continue to pirate content.”
