Spark warns Kiwis of fraudulent phone calls…

Spark New Zealand says it has become aware that some of its customers have been contacted by fraudsters claiming to be from the telco, and is urging Kiwis to remain vigilant as a result.

The fraudsters are reportedly telling customers that their Spark services are about to be cut off because of security issues and then asking the customers to go online to a fake Spark webpage.

Customers are also being asked to give remote access to their computer and provide personal banking information as part of this scam.

“These calls are not from Spark and Spark strongly advises anyone who receives one of these calls to hang up immediately,” says Lucy Fullarton, PR Manager Home, Mobile, Business, Spark NZ.

“It’s very important the customers do not hand over any personal banking information and do not proceed to the fraudulent webpage.”

If anyone has passed on information, Spark advises them to contact their bank immediately but tells Kiwis be assured that these fraudsters do not have access to Spark systems.
