TelstraClear tops broadband surveyJanuary 18 - 10am
TelstraClear became the fastest broadband provider during the month of December, according to latest findings from testing service TrueNet.
Findings show the telco firm to be consistently faster than other companies during the tests, which measure the speed in which internet providers offer their services.
While only available in the South Island, in Wellington and Christchurch, TelstraClear also beat rivals in the copper-line DSL market during the month, representing a rise from 4th place during November.
The report comes three months after Vodafone New Zealand completed its acquisition of TelstraClear for a cash consideration of NZ$840 million on October 31.
And it was Vodafone who joined TelstraClear, along with Maxnet and Slingshot, in loading TrueNet’s test page in less than 0.5 seconds during the survey.
Telecom downloaded the page in over a second but Orcon slipped down the ranks, loading the page closer to 1.5 seconds.
Consistent internet speeds
In another part of the testing, TrueNet claims Orcon, Snap and Telecom provided users with the most consistent internet speeds during heavy traffic in December, with the trio also offering speeds of above 97%.
During the peak period, Vodafone hit speeds of above 88% with TelstraClear offering slightly faster service at 89%.
Overall TrueNet says the majority of internet firms “improved significantly” during March and December, with Orcin showing a 9% improvement, along with TelstraClear’s 13%.
