The $9.5 million acquisition of kiwi data centre and cloud services company Maxnet by Australian telco Vocus has been completed, with the company’s CEO indicating there may be more money where that came from.

James Spenceley, chief executive of Vocus Communications (pictured), says once the two companies have been integrated he plans to make ‘significant investment’ in the New Zealand business.

“We are looking forward to growing Maxnet,” Spenceley says, “while at the same time offering a better service and experience for all of our customers.

“We’ve been supplying commercial wholesale internet to Australia and New Zealand for the past five years, and this investment marks the beginning of Vocus becoming more directly involved in the New Zealand market.”

The acquisition was formalised in a small ceremony yesterday.

John Hanna, outgoing CEO of Maxnet, says it’s been ‘a thrill’ to be a part of the company’s growth.

“Maxnet has always challenged the status quo,” Hanna says, “and I look forward to seeing it forge ahead, offering new cutting-edge data centre, cloud and internet services with the additional support and fire-power from Vocus.”
