Apple eats through Microsoft’s PC stock

If you label computers as devices on which people actually conduct their business, then recents findings suggest Apple leads the way.

Overtaking Microsoft for the number of computers (Macs, iPhones, iPads, iPod Touches) sold in Q4 2013, analyst firm Andreessen Horowitz believes this is a “symbolic” moment in the market.

The number of computers sold by Apple was larger than the number of Windows PC sold globally, and if you add Windows Phone to the mix they’re more or less exactly equal.

“This is a pretty good illustration of the scale of mobile,” says Benedict Evans, mobile analyst, Andreessen Horowitz.

“Apple limits itself only to the high end of the mobile market but still sells more units than the whole PC industry.”
