Dimension Data has appointed Simon Gillespie as New Zealand CEO to lead its local operations, following Robin Hartendorp's decision to join Gen-i.

In what has been described as a "logical step for the business", Gillespie's promotion following nearly two decades with the company.

“Simon has played a key leadership role in the organisation and has been groomed for this role," says Dilip Kumar, COO Asia Pacific, Dimension Data.

"We believe he is well suited to lead the continued growth of our New Zealand business.

"With over 19 years at Dimension Data, he is a proven leader with the enthusiasm to lead the organisation through the next phase of development.”

Gillespie says he is looking forward to taking the New Zealand business to an even stronger position.

“We have had fantastic success in the last few years. We are privileged to have high quality clients, we have excellent global backing, and the best talent in the market," he says.

"I look forward to building on this capability for our business and our client’s business.

"We will continue to execute in our strategic growth areas of Cloud, Mobility and IT Outsourcing.”

Gillespie has managed Dimensions Data’s Northern Region and business integration for the past two years, culminating in the recent integration of three sites into Dimension Data’s new premise in the Auckland Viaduct, with a direct responsibility for over 350 staff.

Under Gillespie’s leadership, Dimension Data’s Northern Region IT Outsourcing business has progressed significantly according to the company, retaining and growing key clients such as Air New Zealand, Tower, Sky TV, Auckland Council and Genesis Energy.

Kumar was also quick to acknowledge Hartendorp’s strong contribution to Dimension Data during his 12 years with the business however.

“He has led the New Zealand operation through major growth during which the company grew from 45 staff to over 550, with revenues growing from $20m to over $240m."
