Dimension Data launches 3D workspaceJune 12 - 1pm
Dimension Data New Zealand has launched 3D Workspace, an outsourced desktop-as-a-service offering for cloud and traditional computer users.
Unveiled at the 2013 New Zealand CIO Summit in Auckland, the company says 3D Workspace allows users secure access to their desktop on any device from any location and can be easily scaled up and down to meet the evolving requirements of both the user and the business..
“Increasingly, organisations have to adapt to a blended workforce that includes a mix of office-based and mobile workers, as well as full-time, part-time and contract workers,” says Simon Gillespie, CEO, Dimension Data NZ.
“This has led to many companies to provide a desktop environment that works, no matter where an employee is based, or how often they log into the system.”
Gillespie says the new 3D Workspace platform provides a flexible, efficient and functional solution by integrating the cloud experience with that of the traditional desktop.
“In addition, it allows IT staff to manage desktops remotely through a single portal, while the core platform is managed, monitored and maintained by Dimension Data,” he says.
“With 3D Workspace, organisations no longer need to worry about where their employees are based, or the mechanics of IT delivery.
“Instead they are able to focus on other areas that will deliver higher value to the business.”
The key components of the 3D Workspace platform are:
• 3D App – application packaging as–a-service; providing application packaging and on-going management.
With 3D App, organisations have the ability to upgrade their desktop applications once, with future updates provided without additional capital upgrade costs.
• 3D Virtual – onshore cloud-based desktop-as-a-service that delivers highly effective virtual desktop computing.
3D Virtual provides the ability for users to access their workspace from anywhere, anytime whether it be from a tablet, thin client device, smartphone or a traditional desktop.
• 3D Local – traditional desktop-as-a-service; delivering a cost effective way to manage a traditional desktop and laptop fleet.
3D Local provides best practice desktop management, including application deployment, patching and operating system maintenance.
“3D Workspace is a comprehensive proposition for all organisations, and the tightly integrated services create a flexible entry point for desktop-as-a-service,” Gillespie says.
“In addition, our pricing model allows for a flexible workforce approach and embraces full-time, part- time and shift worker concepts to deliver cost efficiency.
“This means organisations have the choice to engage any or all of the services that make sense for their business at any point in time.”
