Global technology distributor Ingram Micro has lost its CEO of six years, Gregory Spierkel, who has stepped down from the role in order to spend more time with his family.

The 54-year-old Spierkel, who will remain at the company until April 15, will be replaced by current president and COO Alain Monie.

Monie joined Ingram Micro in January 2003 as executive vice president, and was appointed president of the APAC region a year later. In 2007 he was appointed as president and COO, a role he resigned from in 2010 then took up again in November last year. 

Spierkel had also served as APAC president prior to his appointment as CEO. 

In a statement, chairman of the Ingram Micro board Dale Laurance says he is confident Monie is well positioned to guide the company.

“He is an outstanding and worldly leader, fluent in three languages with first-hand global business experience,” Laurance says.

“He has proven to be a strong executive with good strategic thinking.”
