Red Hat releases Storage 2.0 beta

This article could be out of date, as it was published 1 year 1 month 9 days ago.Just six months after acquiring open source storage platform provider Gluster – and four since introducing the first storage appliance based on that company’s GlusterFS system – Red Hat has released a second version, Red Hat Storage 2.0, in private beta.
The main feature of the beta is the integration of file storage and object storage within a centralised storage pool, so users can save as a file and retrieve as an object, or vice versa.
Built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, the new platform also includes compatibility with Apache Hadoop, providing a new storage option for Hadoop deployments, as well as performance and reliability enhancements, improved manageability, and the ability to use the platform as a storage layer for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualisation.
Red Hat hasn’t offered a schedule for the public release of Storage 2.0, and it will most likely depend on the results of this beta.
