Samsung's Galaxy S III sales surpass 30 million
Tue, 6th Nov 2012
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Samsung has sold over 30 million Galaxy S III smartphones in approximately five months since its debut in May.

The South Korean company made the announcement early this morning, eclipsing the previous Galaxy S II which shipped around 10 million devices in 2011.

“The Galaxy S III continues to be a runaway favorite with customers around the world," says JK Shin, president and head of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung.

"Meeting this sales milestone in five months sets another record for Samsung, and we are extremely proud and yet motivated to continue to provide our customers with products that they love.

“On behalf of Samsung Mobile, I appreciate millions of customers around the world that have chosen the Samsung Galaxy S III.”

The news follows yesterday's announcement that the Android smartphone operating system was found on three out of every four smartphones shipped during the third quarter of 2012.

That is according to the IDC, who says total Android smartphone shipments worldwide reached 136.0 million units, accounting for 75% of the 181.1 million smartphones shipped in 3Q12.

During the quarter Samsung increased its lead in terms of unit shipments selling a record 56.3 million smartphones across their products.

The company shipped a record 56.3 million smartphones, representing almost double the market share of its rival Apple, who sold 26.9 million.
