SMBs suffer more with cybercrime, says Grant Murphy
October 21 - 9am 6According to Grant Murphy, Director of Web Gateway Security at Secure Computing, this has caused “major setbacks” for businesses all over the world.
Murphy, who is based in the US, travelled to New Zealand this month to meet with key corporate and government department customers.
Talking about malware and web-based attacks, Murphy argued that it’s the SMBs that suffer the most with thiese kinds of attacks. Although they’re not necessarily the most frequent target, they’re the ones that have more difficulty recovering from the situation. The reason, of course, is the fact that “they have less resources available”, as Murphy explained.
For the security expert, we are no longer going through an education process. “Now it’s all about how to reduce the problem”, Murphy said.
Murphy mentioned the “interesting” case of the spammers on trial in New Zealand and added that businesses in the country have an understanding of the security issues they face.
Virtualisation, along with all its benefits, also brings along a lot of new risks. Murphy warned companies about those risks and believes that “appliance-based solutions are the best way to deal with the problem”.
