Cloud-based email provider SMX is looking to expand its reseller network in New Zealand, appointing a new partner account manager to grow its already impressive roster of 114 channel partners.

Telanches Sun, formerly market development manager for HP, says SMX is perfectly placed to take advantage as more and more companies look to move their IT to the cloud.

“We are specialists, we do one thing – email – and we do it really well,” Sun says.

“You have these specialised roles like accountants and lawyers. Sure, you can do some reading and get some knowledge if you want to do it yourself, but why bother?

“If you want cost-saving, if you want your problems to go away, pay the experts. You don’t have to invest a large sum of money up front, so if you’re not happy with the service you can always pull out.”

SMX vice president of marketing and sales for ANZ, Mike Murphy, says Sun’s driven personality makes him a great addition to the team.

“Telanches’ extensive experience at both HP and IDC has given him an advanced understanding of the sales process, development and execution of go-to-market strategy and product management,” Murphy says.

Of the market, Sun says cloud computing is still in its infancy stage in New Zealand, with plenty of room for growth.

“The likes of Xero have definitely paved the way for other cloud players,” Sun says.

“Also, the natural disaster in Christchurch has given people a reason to think about what their best backup plan should be.

“They could’ve invested all this money, and overnight had it blown away.”
