Sony set to cut ANZ jobs…

Less than a month after ditching its Vaio PC brand, tech giant Sony has announced job cuts across the ANZ region.

Following news of 5,000 job losses worldwide, Sony Electronics Australia has confirmed it will implement staff changes across its sales and marketing departments in ANZ.

“In line with Sony Corporation’s February 6 earnings announcement outlining global headcount reduction, together with the decision to cease ranging VAIO products in the ANZ markets as of June 2014, Sony has implemented some organisational changes resulting in a number of redundancies across A/NZ,” a company release states.

At present however Sony refused to reveal the exact number of cuts.

In early February, reports from Japan confirmed the company no longer sees the viability of supporting it’s Vaio brand any longer.

Sony’s decision to leave the PC making business means that after 17 years, the Vaio brand will most likely disappear before the end of 2014.
