Surface switch? Microsoft launches bold rebranding plan

Microsoft is set to dramatically rebrand its hardware portfolio, starting with its flagship Surface devices and Windows Phone handsets.

That’s the word coming from @evleaks, which claims the tablet lineup “faces brand streamlining.”

According to the report, Redmond is in the final stages of licensing the Nokia brand, for the purpose of calling the handsets ‘Nokia by Microsoft.’

And with regards to Surface, the new products will soon be called Lumia instead.

Speculation within the tech media also claims a document revealed that Microsoft was planning to discard the Nokia brand name from its smartphone range 18 months after the deal was finalised.
