Westcon Group New Zealand is inviting partners to BE ready to sell Symantec’s Backup Exec 2014 offerings, through a series of technical and sales sessions across the country this month.
Set for Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland (August 11, 12 and 14), the sessions will be split into two events, a sales workshop over lunch and a technical session in the evening.

To support rapid growth, streamline backup of 16 terabytes, and simplify protection of a nearly 100 percent virtualised environment, New Zealand-based home improvement chain Mitre 10 turned to the security solutions specialist to upgrade its approach to data protection.
As a result, the company utilised Symantec's data protection solution upgrade that unified virtual and physical backups and restored entire virtual machines or applications as well as granular data.

“The ability to back up virtual machines from the outside is great,” says Paul Flatt, Infrastructure and Support Manager at Mitre 10.
“But even more important, Backup Exec software can also extract the contents from the inside as well, in one pass.
“It means that we can restore the whole virtual machine if we need to, or restore an individual file if that’s what’s required.”
In the past however, Flatt had tried alternative tools. “I’ve used other backup solutions on a virtualised environment with varying degrees of success,” he adds.
“But for me, the ability to back up a virtual machine image as well as the files inside it—or restore an entire virtualised application or the granular data in it, whether it’s Exchange or SharePoint or SQL—that’s what makes Backup Exec 2014 far more compelling than its competitors.”
Offering a significant boost in productivity over BE2010, Flatt says BE2014 is nearly three times faster, allowing him to manage it in about “three to four hours per week” - which represents about one-third of the time the company’s previous version required.
Coupled with an easy upgrade, a logical interface and 24x7 access to experts, Flatt is unwavering in his belief that BE2014, supported by Symantec, has all the right tools to help the retail giant grow.

During a sales workshop over lunch, these Information Management focused sessions will arm partners with key sales information about Backup Exec 2014.
While the technical session with drinks and pizza will focus on Information Management, these TechNight Sessions will advise partners on new Features and enhancements, BE2014 utilities as well as technical best practices and resources.
